Steampunk thinks Wal-Mart sucks!

I have noticed our Countries newest facination with the depression era. We grew up in the 80's, the biggest hardship we faced was if Safeco was out of Aqua Net. Our society has become so materialistic and even then those materials are not coveted. The first sign of wear that once loved over priced car gets traded in.

We seem to long for when life was hard. So we could prove our worth, work hard and be rewarded. I think this is one of the reasons Steampunk has blown up like it has. Its a peice of history, since we don't really feel like we have our own we have borrowed from the past. We are tired of brand name labels that make us all look different in the same way. People demand a lot more than mass produced items, they want to own an item that will be special, last, and of course be unique. In creating Steampunk jewelry I went through my Grandmothers baskets and boxes to see what all she had kept. She kept everything, there is a huge basket of shirt buttons. They didn't have much, but the coveted what they did have. Sounds like a great way of being.
